Doomsday - 50 visions of the end of the world

I read this book a while ago. It costed me $10 bucks but it was well spent money.
I am not sure where to begin to talk about this book but here it goes:

It is divided by chapters and each chapter with several sections.
Chapters names:
War, Religious Apocalypse, Plague, Cosmic Event, Natural Disaster, Nuclear error,
Rogue Technology, Man made disaster, Climate Change, Extra Terrestrials,
Animal apocalypse & The passage of time.

While reading all these chapters and being most related to what humans do in the planet and how what
they do can cause some of these "disasters"; i was given a scary vision about a very dark future where we are all might be heading; but they can still be changed and avoided if we want. At least ... delayed.

However when i started to read about natural disasters that we cannot do anything about, such as the loss of the magnetic north pole, which is a cyclic event and is due to happen in our time, at anytime now; i was really blown away.
There are many things in this planet that we have no control and regardless of our will, they will happen. It is just a matter of time.

Quote:
Just how near is the end of the world? Behind the veil of safety of everyday life in the west lurks the sinister reality of a chaotic universe.
Doomsday reveals the very real threats posed to modern civilization as we enter the new millennium and asks the question:
Is humanity on the path to destruction?

doomsday

PS: Regardless of our will; we are. We might be able to delay it.... but not avoid it.
